Buff-banded Rail

Buff-banded Rail

Lake Annand, Toowoomba, Queensland

August, 2011

Thanks to Mick Atzeni for taking me to see this guy in Toowoomba last year. It was much friendlier than one I spent some time trying to get close to in Cairns back in 2007.

  1. Wow, never heard of that one and briliant shots, especially as its a rail – never seen a tame one yet.

What a smart looking rail! I especially like the stretching one. The pattern and colouration are really interesting.

  3. These are great images and I know how hard it is to photograph rails. The greenish background certainly helps.

  4. Great photos! I am so surprised to hear that this bird was at Lake Annand!! We lived in this area for a long time and I never saw one there. I have only seen them in Cairns. It always amazes me the birds that visit such small areas of habitat! Great Photos and report!

  7. Great captures! Rails are so often hidden in reeds and difficult to see let alone photograph!
