End of Year Birds 2010

 Peregrine Falcon
Had a nice outing with Michael Atzeni this morning. The highlight was the above Peregrine attacking a kestrel at Gowrie Junction. It happened very quickly as they appeared and scooted up and down and around before disappearing. I only got one shot. It would have been good to get both birds in the frame but I was too slow.
Australian Kestrel
We found plenty of kestrels around Oakey.

(Above and below) Plum-headed Finch near Jondaryan.

  1. Wonderful photos. Is that a centipede between the kestrel's claws in the 5th photo? Really interesting.Good birding!

Some great shots of the Nankeen Kestrel here! The weather looks brilliant over there. Wish I'll have more sunny days here for winter. Anyway, wish you a very happy new year! Hope 2011 brings you lots and lots of nice bids both in Japan and Australia 😀

  3. Wow these photos are just amazing. The Peregrine Falcon is gorgeous – so wonderful that you saw one in the nearby area. I showed my husband and he loved the photo, he hasn' seen one since he was a child living in Greemount on the Darling Downs. I have not as yet seen one. We have also never seen the plum-headed finch, wonderful to see that they are not too far away from where we live… time for a road trip I think!
